Who Defines you and your life?

Alice in Wonderland the movie was about a girl who kept having this weird dream about being in a different world with different people than she was used to being around. there was a point where she thought she was going crazy but her father told her all the best people were. As I thought about what he said I realized it was true in some way because those are the people who think outside the box and most of them achieve great things. Also, just because you think differently does not necessarily make you crazy, it just means you do not want to do what everyone else is doing.

Though I like what Alice's dad said to her, There was one line that stood out to me overall and that was the conversations between Alice and the dog where they are talking about her defeating the jabbawakii, he tell her she can not change the path and she replies "I make the path" meaning that it was her dream or her world therefore. no one was going to tell her what she was and was not going to do.

It was not only in wonderland that she decided that she was going to be the one to set her path. She also took charge when she came back, she told everyone that she was not going to get married and she decide that she wanted to follow her fathers footsteps and get involved in business. I really enjoyed Alice's character because she was on a journey to define who she was and what she wanted out of life, and towards the end she did once again she is a character that does not let society define who she is or what she is going to do.

My Anti-hero :)

Name: Steve

Villain: raquisha (Mr. Smarts ex-wife)

Master: His Advanced Calculus teacher Mr. Smarts

Setting: Present time

Plot: Steve is your typical high school nerd, he does not go out and is not a very social person. His idea of fun is staying home on weekends and doing homework. His favorite subject is calculus every Friday he hopes that his teacher Mr. Smarts, assigns lots of homework so he can have something "fun" to do over the weekend. Raquisha the evil villain is Mr. smarts ex-wife, who is furious because Mr. Smarts left her to pursue his interest in math. Raquisha's plan is to take over every school in the world and destroy math, but what she does not know is that Mr. Smarts trained Steve very well and he came up with an equation that would send her back in time to the dinosaur age.

Steve is an anti-hero becuase he is a scrawy short kid who is shy and does nott in with the rest of the students at his school. The only thing people think he is good for is homework, he is not confident in himself to try anything different that does not involve a book.

My new favortie movie!

As of last Friday How to Train Your Dragon is my new favorite movie, I rally enjoyed this move first of all because it is a cartoon and because of toothless. At first I thought this movie was going to be an OK movie but after watching it I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. I really enjoyed the character Hiccup because he went about solving the problem a different way than everyone else. Now that I think of it, Hiccup was an anti-hero he was the opposite of all the other vikings, they were strong and big and he was small and scrawny. He did not let this get in his way because at the end of the day he was the one who saved everyone.

Though Hiccup was an amazing character my favorite was Toothless because he was adorable and funny. He made me wish I had a pet dragon and if I did I would totally name him chubby monster. He would also have pink rhinestones on the seat to ride him! :)

George Eliot

My research paper was influenced by the author George Eliot, sounds like a pretty cool guy right? Well shes a female, her real name is Mary Ann Evans. She was born in England and one of the most respected writers of the Victorian age. As I started to read about her I asked myself "why did she use a males name and not her real name?"

Since she was a woman in the Victorian age, Eliot had to break harder barriers to achieve what she did. In the Victorian age, women were kept away from the public atmosphere, and their only job was to be married and have children. Victorian women were suppose to be fragile, weak, and restricted  to an opinion. This influenced her to use a males pen name, but also because she wanted respect as a writer and did not want to be compared to other women who were mocked for focusing on romance.

She used the last name Eliot because it was a good and easy word to pronounce. She chose her name George because of George Henry Lewes, a married man  whom she had a relationship with. Though he was separated from his wife, he was unable to get a divorce Mary Ann’s and George Lewes relationship was a scandal. What people thought or said about their relationship did not affect Mary Ann because she was a free thinker and did not feel the need to fall into social pressure. In her opinion, George and her were married.

If there was one thing that stood out to me was the fact that she defined who she was. she did not let society set her morals or standards. She went against what society said women had to do and what they could not do. Most importantly she had a lot of determination, which helped her achieve so much throughout her life.

A little obsession

In the Lord of The Ring everyone was so obsessed with this one simple thing, a ring that represented power. I believe that everyone is a little obsessed with something weather it is a sport, an artist, reading etc., but what makes us so obsessed and attached to that one thing? well I would probably have to say that my obsession is between soccer and being a girlie girl. Im obsessed with soccer because stepping on that field clears my mind and its an amazing feeling because you focus on just that one thing. Im not sure why im obsessed with being girly i just think its fun :). I think we become obsessed simply because its like a comfort zone we have.

A Christmas Carol

A Christmas Carol was actually a pretty good story and the main theme was being selfish. Eventually Scrooge realizes that theres no point in being selfish because in the end that only leaves you lonely. Most of the time people do not realize how they treat others or how they act towards them, but we can take the time to reflect on how we treat others and change what needs to be changed.

I think this is the story for which we drew our own christmas trees, and our group drew a palm tree at the beach. I am not sure but I really enjoyed that activity and everyones trees were so different :)

Can we be forced to become a certain way?

In Mary Shelley's book Frankenstein, a creature was created from dead tissue, in one of our quizzes we were asked if we agreed with the creature when he stated he was forced to become evil. So the  question I ask myself is, can society or people in general force us to become a certain way? I do not think that society or people can force us to be someone we do not want to be.

We are all unique individuals and we decided what we do and what we do not do. Just because sometimes we do not think before we speak or do things, does not mean we were forced to say them or do them. Yes, I know that we can be influenced by those around us and our friends can have some influence on what we do simply because they are doing it. BUT influence someone and FORCING someone to do something are two different things. We are all responsible for our own actions.
